What Are Partial Limb Prosthetics?

Partial limb prosthetics are custom-made artificial limbs that help pets with partial limb loss or amputation regain stability, comfort, and independence.

Each device is designed to match the remaining limb’s anatomy — using durable, waterproof materials for everyday wear.

They allow pets to stand, walk, and play again with improved confidence and balance.

Start Your Pet’s Mobility Journey

⚠️ Partial limb prosthetics are suitable only when part of the limb remains below the elbow or knee joint.

Veterinary Prosthetics at OrthoPaws

At OrthoPaws, we design custom prosthetic limbs for pets of all sizes — most often dogs and cats recovering from partial amputations.

Whether your pet is:
  • Recovering from trauma or surgery
  • Adjusting after partial limb loss
  • Struggling with overuse on remaining limbs

Our goal is to restore balance, reduce strain, and help your pet live a comfortable, active life again.

We are clinicians first. Expect education, transparency, and realistic expectations, not just a product.

Why Prosthetics Matter

Many pets can get by on three legs, but over time this can lead to joint strain, spinal misalignment, and overuse injuries — especially in larger or older pets.

A properly fitted prosthesis can:

  • Prevent overuse injuries and joint pain
  • Restore natural movement and confidence
  • Support a longer, more balanced life

Device Types & Pricing

All OrthoPaws prosthetics are waterproof, easy to clean, and crafted for daily use. Most pets adapt quickly, rediscovering their ability to move with confidence and comfort.

Additional Care & Considerations

Rehabilitation & Adaptation

To help your pet adapt safely, we recommend physical therapy during the first few weeks of use.

Rehab builds strength, balance, and confidence while reducing stress on the other limbs.

For pets using a front-limb prosthesis, we often suggest a supportive brace on the opposite leg to help distribute weight and prevent future injury.

Candidate Requirements

Partial limb prosthetics require a healthy portion of the limb for casting and fitting.

  • Front limbs: at least half of the radius and ulna (forearm)
  • Hind limbs: at least half of the tibia and fibula (below the knee)
  • Your pet must tolerate gentle touch and bear some weight on the remaining limb.

We typically recommend waiting until skeletal maturity for a long-term device, though starter prosthetics can be made for growing pets if families understand that replacements may be needed.

If you’re unsure whether your pet is a candidate, our team will guide you every step of the way.
