Custom Stifle Brace for a Retired Police K9: Jagger's Story

on September 17, 2026

A Retired K9, Slowed by Joint Disease

At 11 years old, Jagger Coyman has already dedicated a lifetime to serving others.

This handsome Belgian Malinois is a retired active-duty Patrol and Explosives Detection K9 who proudly served with the Tampa Police Department. After years of hard work, training, and service, Jagger has entered a well-deserved new chapter of his life, enjoying retirement as a beloved full-time companion to his former partner.

But years of demanding work had taken a toll on Jagger's body. He was experiencing degenerative joint disease in his left hind leg, making each step increasingly stiff, slow, and carefully calculated. To help him move more comfortably and confidently, Jagger came to OrthoPaws for a custom stifle brace.

Throughout casting and fitting, Jagger was a calm, steady patient.

A Brace Worthy of a Hero

Jagger was successfully fitted with a custom stifle brace featuring an American flag design, a fitting tribute to a K9 who spent his career serving his community.

His custom brace provides additional support and stability to his affected stifle, helping him move with greater confidence and comfort.

Once fitted with his brace, Jagger began walking with a noticeably improved stride. He looked less like a retired working dog struggling with his aging joints and more like the confident, capable dog he has always been, ready to take on his newest assignment: companion duty.

Honoring Those Who Served

Jagger's custom device was made possible through funding from Paws of Honor, an organization dedicated to helping cover medical expenses for retired military and law enforcement working dogs.

These K9s spend their careers protecting, detecting, searching, and serving alongside the people who depend on them. When their working days are over, they deserve the same dedication and care they gave throughout their service.

We are honored to have played a small part in helping Jagger enjoy this next chapter of his life.

Thank you for your service, Jagger. Your working days may be behind you, but there are still plenty of adventures and plenty of love ahead.

Retired from service. Never retired from being a hero.
